Up until the age of six, I was never exposed to TV due to my parents' strict policy. However, when I caught my first glimpse of 'KABUKI', I was simply astounded by the beauty of it all.

This, coupled with the fact that I was surrounded by sculptures and serigraphs by Erte - the influential Art Deco designer whose work my family collected, meant that I was immersed in the world of beautiful forms from an early age; subsequently sewing the seeds for my desire to become a fashion designer.

Therefore I decided to attend Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, a school where many famous designers that I respect have graduated from. However, during the Christmas holiday of my first year I travelled to Rwanda to visit my sister who was working for the UN at the time, and my whole perspective of life changed.
The colors, the sounds, the smells, the shapes and the lifestyle were completely different to anything I had experienced before.  I was inspired by the world around me and found myself drawing what I saw and how I felt at every opportunity. This passion for creativity has never stopped driving me and has led me to constantly ask myself one very important question:

'What is the value of happiness?'

Life in Tokyo is so convenient and everything is available at anytime, yet take a look on the train or the street and you will see many people in their own little bubbles. In Africa, even though commodities are scarce, the people smile at each other, help each other and always possess the spirit of generosity. Although we are living in one of the most densely populated cities in the world, there's still a feeling of isolation and loneliness.

This experience in Africa gave me the basis for the theme of 'Human Relationships' in my art. I express different aspects of this theme through several mediums. In Relation Shape I use photography to record human interactions. In RS ( Relation Shape ) I use paint to explore my ideas in a broader, abstract way. In RS Cocktail Series I use digital print to transform my drawing into digital collage allowing me to illustrate a complete story in one image.

I believe the value of happiness is deeply related to the interactions we experience in society. Having lived abroad and travelled extensively, I have felt this belief to be palpably true.
